He saw a light-haired player suited up in skates and a red practice jersey and assumed it was forward Mikael Granlund.
Wrong. It was Minnesota Whitecaps forward Hannah Brandt, who skated with the Wild at TRIA Rink as part of the third annual Girls’ Hockey Weekend.
“We should sign her,” Boudreau said. “We could use a righty.”
It’s true the differences between those two players can be subtle — look for the stud earrings and ponytail that hung down below the helmet on Brandt — even catching some of the players doing a double-take when seeing the players from behind. As Wild forward Zach Parise also pointed out, “Granny’s hair is kind of long.” The height isn’t too much different either — with Brandt listed at 5-foot-6 and Granlund at 5-foot-10.
“She looked like a mini-Granny out there,” Boudreau said.
