Five Top Spikeless Golf Shoes To Wear On And Off The Golf Course - Forbes

Posted: 19 May 2019 03:00 AM PDT

The Flex is one of the top options for golf shoes that can be work on and off the golf course.

FootJoy

Bethpage State Park's Black Course is a grind, a mental and physical challenge clearly indicated by the warning sign behind the first tee. This year's PGA Championship site is widely regarded as one of the toughest walks in golf, as the Black is strictly a walking-only course (John Daly and his medical exemption notwithstanding).

On the final day the course was open to public play ahead of the tournament, FootJoy surprised hearty golfers who were prepared to sleep in their cars for a coveted tee time. As rain fell in New York, FootJoy set up overnight accommodations in the way of "glamping" tents, provided a catered dinner and breakfast, and gave away rain gear as well as golf shoes, socks and gloves.

FootJoy also released a limited-edition FJ Flex "Blackout" golf shoe that featured a representation of the Bethpage Black's iconic warning sign on the heel. There were several hundred pairs of the shoe, which sold out in about 80 minutes.

The walking-only demands of the Black begs the question: what are some of the most comfortable, stylish and lightweight shoes that golfers can turn to – both on and off the course? Here's a closer look at a few of the top options currently on the market:

FootJoy FJ Flex

The Flex spikeless golf shoe from FootJoy.

FootJoy

The "Blackout" version might not be available, but you can still get your feet into some of FootJoy's most popular shoes. The Flex is a casual spikeless option that appeals to golfers who prioritize comfort and seek versatility, as the shoes can be worn on and off the golf course. With a sporty fit and a lightweight and breathable mesh, the Flex might look like a sneaker but offers incredible traction and performance on the golf course – perfect for the rigors of Bethpage Black.

Puma Ignite NXT Solelace

The Puma Ignite NXT Soullace

Puma took its Ignite spikeless franchise to the next level with its NXT Solelace footwear, one of three closure offerings in the new line. While there's the traditional lacing style and the proprietary DISC tightening technology, Solelace might be the brand's most innovative closure system yet. The laces are essentially attached directly to the midsole and completely wrap around a golfer's foot, offering 360-degree support and a locked-in feel. These golf shoes have the versatility to be worn on and off the course, as well as a look that will turn some heads.

ECCO S-Lite

The ECCO featherlight collection.

ECCO

Just in time for summer, ECCO has released its lightest-ever leather golf shoe. While the S-Lite has a casual street-style look, it's a blend of cutting-edge engineering and comfort designed to deliver an ultra-light on-course experience. The outsole is 66 percent thinner than ECCO has ever created before, the diamond-shaped embossing on the yak leather upper further reduces weight, and a soft textile lining provides for natural water repellency and breathability.

adidas Crossknit 3.0

the Crossfit 3.0 from adidas Golf.

adidas

The 3.0 is the latest edition of the popular Crossknit franchise that was introduced in 2016, delivering performance and comfort in an untraditional package. The Crossknit golf shoe is similar to adidas' Ultraboost running shoe, featuring a spikeless outsole, reflective laces and internal lace loops, and a heathered textile upper that's lightweight and water repellant. For those seeking cushioning – the popular BOOST technology -- without sacrificing traction, the 3.0 delivers.

True Knit

The True Knit

True Linkswear

The True Knit golf shoe was specifically designed to seamlessly transition from the links to everyday life. The one-piece upper is stretchable and flexible while providing the stability and comfort that golfers need, especially on a course like Bethpage Black. The True Knit features an exceedingly lightweight and breathable construction, and although they're not waterproof, the footwear has a water repellant treatment that causes morning dew to bead up on the outer shell and keep your feet dry and airy.

The best shoes for spin class in 2019 - Business Insider

Posted: 17 May 2019 02:15 PM PDT

The Pista 100 is a versatile and comfortable shoe designed for entry-level riders and beyond.

The Pista 100 is marketed as an entry-level shoe designed for women. However, it's also a durable and versatile shoe that will serve you well beyond your basic cycling needs. In terms of compatibility, the shoe works with the popular Shimano Pedaling Dynamics (SPD) clipless pedal system. The SPD system has a two-hole metal cleat. The Pista 100 is also SPD-SL compatible. This SPD-SL system has three holes. In contrast to the SPD system, which is used for casual riding as well as mountain biking and touring, SPD-SL is primarily designed for road riding and racing. Other compatible cleat systems include Look and Speedplay.

Most spin classes involve a combination of standing and sitting. Whether you're grinding it out on a seated climb or are powering through a standing sprint to the finish, you need shoes that are comfortable and supportive.

"I would have quit cycling if it wasn't for these shoes," said one Amazon customer. "I used the wrong ones previously and my feet were killing me." Another customer "felt a tremendous difference in these vs. the ones supplied by the cycling studio...I didn't feel as much muscle strain nor did I feel like I used as much energy when I increased the resistance."

In fact, these shoes have a fiberglass reinforced sole that specifically increases power on the bike. In addition, the shoes are stiff enough for optimal power transfer, which results in faster rides that don't require as much energy expenditure over time.

If your top picks come down to fit and looks, you're not alone. Even the smallest details can make or break a shoe for some riders. The Pista 100 comes in three color combinations, each of which features a solid exterior with hints of colorful details on the outside and inside. In terms of sizing, many women prefer to size up if they are between sizes. Having a slightly larger shoe also allows you to wear thicker socks if you prefer.

"I wear a thicker sock when I ride and fit is great, feels a little wide for me if I wear a thin sock, even though length is right," said one customer. Many women with wider feet say that the Pista 100 is spacious and comfortable.

Pros: Several color choices, fiberglass reinforced sole, compatible with many cleat systems

Cons: Cleats stick out, which can make walking uncomfortable, cleats sold separately, runs a bit small

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana is getting a big paycheck after Saturday's Wine Women & Shoes event.

The third annual fundraiser hosted at Le Pavillon featured a Best in Shoe competition, wine and culinary tasting stations, raffles, and a boutique shop with all of the funds going to help children in Acadiana.

There was a group of Shoe Guys to pamper the female guests. You may have recognized one of them.

I had a great time volunteering as a "shoe guy" and making sure all the ladies glasses were topped off during the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana Wine Women & Shoes Acadiana fundraiser!

KATC's Marcelle Fontenot was also there.

Wine Women & Shoes is Big Brothers Big Sisters' largest fundraiser.
